Yesterday’s announcement of Johnny Depp in the number 2 position on the totally non-gay list of hot guys was cause for some uproar. Who could unseat Johnny from the number one spot? Is it even possible? Was this some kind of joke? I assure you that this is no joke. Johnny is a touch contender, he has style and flair. However, times change and it is time for someone new to hold the crown of hottest guy in a totally non gay way (not that there is anything wrong with that). What qualities does someone have to have to knock the perpetual hot guy off the top of the list, well let us explore them together. With that I give you the new hottest guy in a non gay way.

#1: David “The Doctor is In” Tennant

He’s like fire and ice and rage. He’s like the night and the storm in the heart of the sun. He’s ancient and forever. He burns at the center of time and can see the turn of the universe. And… he’s wonderful.

Tennant is most famous for his portrayal of the tenth Doctor on Doctor Who, a role he was born to play. You may also recognize him from his role as Barty Crouch Jr. in the fourth Harry Potter film. Sadly his HP role consisted mostly of sticking his tongue out like a snake, however his Doctor Who role is much more substantial and I suggest you check him out.

So what sets Tennant apart? Is it how good he looks in a tight little suit? No, but that does help. It is his style. He makes glasses cool and he makes suits look even better. Tennent himself has described his look, in refering to his Doctor Who Character, as nerd chic. Nerd chic, I think it should be embraced more. If you look at all of the guys on this list I think that you will find some level of nerd chic. Taking what was once the outcast and making it the star.

I don’t think I need to bring you up to speed on what I am doing here. It is a totally non-gay list of hot guys, just in case I actually did need to bring you up to speed. Monday we discovered that our runners up for the list of Totally Non-Gay Hot Guys included Bruce Campbell, Charlie Cox, Daniel Craig, Daniel Radcliff and Patric Stewart. Tuesday we learned that number 4 or the list was Tech Nerd and IPTV star Kevin Rose. Yesterday we encountered some serious non gay hotness from James Callis. Todays post though is what this list is all about. I wrote this list because the former number 1 hot guy in a totally non-gay way was demoted to number 2. Everyone knows him and they should love him, here he is.

#2: Johnny “Shiver me Timbers” Depp

I don’t think I actually need to defend this choice on the totally non-day list of hot guys. Tommorow I will defend why he is not number one, but today I think all I need to say is that Johnny Depp is not only hot , in a totally non-gay way, not that there is anything wrong with that, but he is also pretty – pretty like a girl.

Johnny has style.

Johnny plays the best characters.

Today we are going to look at the Number 3 Hot Guy in a Totally Non-Gay Way (not that there is anything wrong with that). Today brings us back to actors after yesterday’s detour into the web famous territory.

#3: James “Evil Bastard” Callis

James Callis is well known for playing morally ambiguous sci-fi genius Doctor Gaius Baltar on the absolute, hands down, balls to the wall best show on television, Battlestar Galactica. Callis has shown on BSG that he has a huge range as an actor, most of it involving some variation of genius and crazy. Some of you may remember him from some random chick flick, but let me reassure you, BSG is where the goods are at.

I mentioned morally ambiguous earlier, let me expand on that. In BSG, Callis’ character, Gaius Baltar, betrays the whole human race nearly causing their extinction. He lies to protect himself. He lets bad things happen to advance his personal well being. Everyone comes to hate him and wants him dead, yet in the end because of his brilliant portrayal you can sympathize with him and perhaps even like him. What on the outside may appear to be one of the most morally complex characters to grace TV, is in fact on closer inspection a very simple character. He believes in the greater good of himself. Lie, cheat and steal - he will survive. That and he is also a little crazy.

The reason he is hot though is not only does his character get the girl, of course the girl may be a figment of his imagination once again proving how crazy he is, but he cons everyone else at the same time and does it with a smile. His character screams love me with charm and wit. Plus he is the best dressed completely insane, responsible for the destruction of human civilization, genius scientist you will find on the list so far.
